Who We Are
Grace Church of The Valley is a multi-generational and gospel-oriented Christian assembly, organized within confessional Baptist belief and practice with a simple leadership model consisting of church elders and deacons. We welcome you and your family to become acquainted with our leaders on this page.
Grace Church Elders
Deane Plew - Teaching Elder
Deane was raised in a very solid Baptist pastor’s home. He heard the Gospel day in and day out. However, he never came to true repentance in our Lord Jesus. His life was one of deception. His family suffered the consequences. At the age of 39 God’s Spirit broke Deane and brought him to His Savior & Lord in deep repentance. He is a graduate of Talbot Theological Seminary. God redeemed his family situation and today he Is the proud father of three living children and 14 grand-children. Jean, his wife of 49 years, is living proof of 1 Peter 3. She is an integral part of his ministry at Grace Church.
John Ellett - Elder-In-Training
John was raised in an Evangelical Free Church and graduated from Westmont College where he met his wonderful and godly wife. Although he became a Christian at a young age, he is greatly encouraged by God’s sanctifying work in his life. He is the proud father of six children and takes his duty as a father as given in Deuteronomy 6 very seriously, leading Bible time at the dinner table regularly and involving his family in ministry and church activities. He feels very blessed to be a part of a church that values children and family and where the family can participate in the church service together.
Grace Church Deacons
Curtis Baldwin - Deacon
Curtis was raised in an unequally yoked home and as a result came to an understanding of forgiveness in Christ at a young age but did not have much guidance in maturing in the faith. God directed him towards studying His word throughout college (Bachelors of Applied Theology California Baptist University) and then through seminary (Masters of Divinity Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary). Thinking his life was moving in one direction, God quickly changed his course following the death of his wife. Curtis had no idea he would end up where he is but he can look back on his life and see how God has been shaping him and sanctifying him. He doesn’t deserve it but Curtis is honored to be saved by grace, to be serving in His church, to be a father of two amazing sons, and to have a teaching job that allows him to demonstrate God’s love daily. Philippians 4:4-9, 11-13 are some verses that support and strengthen him, while passages like 1 Corinthians 9:23-27 drive him.
Nick Ortega - Deacon
